Ankeny Basement Remodel with Wine Cellar
One thing we learned from this project is that there are people who love wine, and then there are people who really love wine. Our clients, a charming Des Moines couple, fall squarely into the second group.
For them, a truly compelling basement renovation wouldn’t be complete without a stunning wine cellar, and that’s what we delivered. But enjoying wine isn’t just about what’s in the bottle. That’s why we designed and remodeled their basement to seamlessly blend a sophisticated wine cellar with luxurious entertainment spaces. Let’s uncork this case study and take a closer look at the details.
The centerpiece of this renovation is a meticulously designed, humidity and temperature-controlled walk-in wine cellar, a sanctuary with an impressive 750-bottle capacity. The cellar’s ambiance is enhanced with an elegant chandelier that descends from exposed wooden beams.
Stepping out of the cellar, the space gracefully transitions into a kitchen space conceived for effortless entertaining.
The kitchen island shows off a waterfall stone design and can be used as a bar for serving or seating, thanks to three high-top chairs and plenty of space for guests to sip and mingle. Dark cabinets create a sharp contrast with the bright, inviting look of the backsplash and countertops.
Above, coffered ceilings with tapered beams create depth and an atmosphere of refined elegance, further enhanced by a curated scheme of direct and indirect lighting that allows for customized illumination.
Beyond the kitchen lies a haven for relaxation and togetherness: a living space that doubles as an attractive home theater. Every detail has been considered to ensure an unparalleled cinematic experience, including an acoustic wall for dynamic sound.
An electric fireplace casts a gentle glow, inviting guests to unwind on the plush sofa and savor every moment of a classic movie screening or a friendly conversation.
The attention to detail extends to the three-quarter bath that features a fully tiled surround and a frameless shower door for a touch of modern sophistication.
Bright, clean lines are complemented by a flair for little accents, including unique, two-toned faucet hardware.
This project shows why our team at Compelling Homes loves taking on custom basement remodeling. For us, an unfinished basement is a blank canvas, and we are passionate about creating a stunning painting that our clients will love. And if they can enjoy that work with a glass of wine in hand—even better.
